iPhone Saves Man From Power-Hungry TSA Goon Squad
Monday 22nd of June 2009 00:23
We're just hearing about it now, but back in March a quick-thinking air traveler took advantage of a dim-witted TSA official who had let that fancy little patch they wear go to his head. Weapon of choice? An iPhone. The man, , was detained for carrying too much money. Not that this is a crime or anything (it isn't), but it was enough of a phantom infraction for the unnamed TSA official to remove him from line, put him in a windowless room, and interrogate him for an hour. Enter the iPhone, a...

iPhone 3G S and Pre head-to-head benchmarks: iPhone wins
Sunday 21st of June 2009 23:55

Now that we know the iPhone 3G S and the Palm Pre , it's time to break out the stopwatches and see how these blood brothers stack up. Anandtech has the first head-to-head tests we've seen, and it seems like the 3G S has the slight edge, loading a series of web pages 11 percent faster and a whopping 54 percent faster than the iPhone 3G. Not too shabby, but not exactly a thorough drubbing either -- especially when you consider webOS is still 1. 0 and there's likely some optimizations to com...

The International Costs of iPhone Tethering
Thursday 18th of June 2009 13:03
While we know how to switch on tethering on the iPhone 3G, we still don’t know what AT&T will charge when the service finally goes official. But around the world, news of updated tariffs is trickling in, and it doesn’t look good. Spain’s Telefónica, for instance, will be introducing a new €39 ($54) per month data ...

iPhone 3G S review
Thursday 18th of June 2009 12:30

digg_url = 'http://digg. com/apple/iPhone_3G_S_review_5'; If it ain't broke, don't fix it -- right? We know countless reviews of the may begin with that cliché, but there's little chance you'd find a better way to describe the strategy that Apple has just put into play with its latest smartphone. In many ways, the 3G S is a mirror image of the iPhone 3G; externally there's no difference. It's inside where all the changes have happened, with Apple issuing a beefed-up CPU, new inter...
Have A “Cheap” iPhone 3G Plan? Don’t Expect A “Cheap” iPhone 3G S Upgrade.
Thursday 18th of June 2009 12:28
So, after a tidal wave of criticism from the iPhone early adopters, AT&T is — kind of. Today, to its policy regarding the iPhone 3G S upgrade price. Previously, only those existing customers who were eligible for a new phone subsidy (typically those within a few months of their two year contract expiring) would get the best price for the device. That meant no current iPhone 3G owners were getting it because that device is only 11 months old. But now, AT&T will offer the best price ...

Senator Kerry Doesn't Like Apple-AT&T Exclusive iPhone Deal
Thursday 18th of June 2009 12:09
Presidential race loser and US Senator (remember him?) has sent a note to the FCC basically asking why AT&T has an exclusive iPhone contract with Apple. Two years after its introduction? This horse is late to the race: We ask that you examine this issue carefully and act expeditiously should you find that exclusivity agreements unfairly restrict consumer choice or adversely impact competition in the commercial wireless marketplace Whether exclusivity agreements are becoming increasingly preval...

The iPhone 3GS is Apple's current mobile flagship, but most of us using iPhone 3Gs won't be paying for the upgrade. So instead, we get the new 3. 0 firmware—not such a bad deal. The free 3. 0 upgrade ($10 for iPod touch users) is available today. Indeed, some of you have probably already downloaded it (and some of you have been downloading beta versions for months). Update: You may want to hold off a few days, as due to the fact that everyone is trying to upgrade at the same time. iPh...

Here it is, folks. At long last, has launched here in the US, bringing with it just about every feature the phone should have had from the start - and a whole lot more. iPhone 3GS Review
Thursday 18th of June 2009 11:28
What's the point in buying a new iPhone if it looks exactly like the old one? Because once you start using it, the speed of the will amaze you. galleryPost('iphone3gsbody', 6, ''); There's a reason why Apple called this the iPhone 3GS for Speed and not the 3GC for "compass" or 3GV for "video recording. " Speed is the central upgrade here, and probably is the single biggest reason you would upgrade to a 3GS from a 3G. And if you're coming in as a virgin iPhone user, there's definitely no questi...

iPhone 3.0 Upgrade Process Deactivating Some Phones From AT&T (Update: Working Now)
Thursday 18th of June 2009 11:18
We just got a load of tips from readers that the is sending their iPhone 3Gs into an unrecoverable mode where the activation process won't complete. The message above is the one iTunes spits out if you're one of the unlucky ones—like our own Andi—that can't complete the upgrade. iPhone 3GS Processor and RAM Uncovered: 600MHz and 256MB
Wednesday 10th of June 2009 18:17
T-Mobile Netherlands, the country's iPhone carrier, posted the processor and RAM on their site that Apple's been so cagey about confirming, and it's exactly what we thought: 600MHz CPU (up from 412MHz) and 256MB of RAM, double the previous models. Even though Apple wouldn't give us , T-Mobile Netherlands has been a pretty reliable source for leaking things Apple doesn't quite want known, even . Besides, those specs are exactly what had been rumored, so we're just left to wonder why Apple bothe...

Wednesday 10th of June 2009 15:26
Apple has flatly refused to tell anyone just what chips lie inside the iPhone 3G S. In fact, while Apple insists that the “s” in 3G S stands for speed, it could equally well stand for secrecy. The Other Apple GS
Wednesday 10th of June 2009 13:12
According to Apple, the S in stands for "Speed. " Back in 1986, the S stood for "Sound," and the "G" stood for "Graphics. " It was the Apple IIGS, the first Apple with a color graphic user interface. The GUI was influenced by Lisa and the Macintosh, and—with its 16-bit architecture, megabytes of RAM, and wavetable music synthesizer—it directly competed with the Commodore Amiga and the Atari ST. In fact, it was so cheap—$999—and fast that it competed with the Macintosh i...
iPhone 3G S processor specs: 600MHz CPU, 256MB of RAM
Wednesday 10th of June 2009 13:05

Apple's being pretty cagey with the hard specs of the iPhone 3G S, but apparently T-Mobile Netherlands didn't get the message -- it's just posted up a specs page listing 256MB of RAM and a 600MHz CPU. That's up from 128MB and 412MHz in the first-gen and the 3G, and it's basically . Of course, the 3G S also has that new that supports OpenGL ES 2. 0, so the total speed boost is probably more than just pure clock speed, but we'll find out for sure when we get our hands on one.
